Dairy Exporters’ Rating: the First Half of 2017



In January-June 2017, exports of dairy products from Ukraine amounted to 117.2 million dollars, which is 76.6% more than in the same period last year.

According to the Analytical Department of Ukrainian Food Export Board (UFEB), the basis for exports in monetary terms in the reporting period were condensed milk and cream (35%, or 40.4 mln dollars) and butter (38%, or 44.8 mln dollars).

Cheese and whey both provided 12% of export earnings (14.3 mln dollars and 13.6 mln dollars respectively), non-condensed milk and cream - 2% (2.6 mln dollars), and fermented milk products - 1% (1.5 mln dollars).

In physical terms, exports amounted to 63.2 thousand tons. The share distribution looks differently. Milk and cream condensed provided 37% of deliveries (23,3 thousand tons), butter – 19% (12,3 thousand tons).

Milk whey provided 28% of exports (17.9 thousand tons), cheeses – 7% (4.12 tons), non-condensed milk and cream – 6% (4.09 thousand tons), and fermented milk products – 2% (1,5 thousand tons).

The leaders in exports of condensed milk and cream (in physical terms) in the first half of the year were Vinnytsia Dairy Plant Roshen (15%), Starokostiantynivskyi Dairy Plant (8%), Bilotserkivska Agro-Industrial Group (8%), Ruzhyn-Moloko (4%) and Veselynivskyi Skimmed Milk Plant (4%). Thus, the five largest exporters provided 39% of the supply of these products abroad in January-June 2017.

In the butter segment, the top five exporters are as follows: Vinnytsia Dairy Plant Roshen (12%), Starokostiantynivskyi Dairy Plant (7%), Yagotinsky Butter Plant (7%), Veselynivskyi Skimmed Milk Plant (3%), Ichnyansky Milk Powder and Butter Plant (2%). These companies provided 32% of butter exports in the first half of this year.

At the same time, the top five exporters of cheese accounted for 72% of supplies in physical terms. The company Como-Export provided 19% of export of these products abroad, Cheese Club - 17%, Laсtalis-Ukraine - 15%, Bel Shostka Ukraine - 13%, and Milkiland-Ukraine - 7%.
